Omar's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to invest in agriculture, building economic resilience and food security in his indigenous community.

Omar's story

Omar lives in Mach Pobor, located in the indigenous reservation of Embera-Wounaan in Darien, the second most biodiverse place in the world and inhabited by indigenous groups that have protected their territory for centuries and have been historically excluded from basic financial services. Mach Pobor has no electricity and basic services are limited. The access to this community is by the river on a "Piragua" (wood-made boat) as road access is impossible most of the year.

Omar has dedicated his entire life to agriculture. He cultivates plantain, avocado, and coffee on the land that he inherited from his ancestors.

He has never taken a loan before due to the historical financial exclusion his indigenous community has suffered. He is nervous but also very confident and excited to invest in his farm without the need of waiting one year for his crops production sales.

He has very good references in his community. He is known as a hard-working man and is one of the founding members of this indigenous community. As loan collateral, he has put up a fishing boat and his weed wacker.

Thank you for being a part of this historic first loan to Omar and providing financial inclusion to indigenous people.
