Natael's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to plant plantain, coffee, and avocado, providing food security in indigenous territories during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Natael's story

Meet Natael!

Natael lives in Mach Pobor, located in the indigenous reservation of Embera-Wounaan in Darien, the second most biodiverse place in the world and inhabited by indigenous groups that have protected their territory for centuries and have been historically excluded from basic financial services. Mach Pobor has no electricity and basic services are limited. The access to this community is by the river on a "Piragua" (wood-made boat) as road access is impossible most of the year.

Natael works with his beloved wife who is also his business partner in their agriculture venture. They are very young and have dedicated their lives to agriculture, as it is a way to provide for their family and stay connected with their precious land and nature. Today their main plantations are plantain, coffee, and avocado. With this loan, Natael aims to expand his production to sell not only to clients outside of his community but to his neighbours, contributing as well to food security in his native land.

Although they don't have children yet, they are raising his nephew while they reach financial stability to have their own children. Natael is a really hard-working man and has always had a very entrepreneurial spirit.

For this loan, Natael has put up as collateral $7,500 USD worth in production of coffee, plantain, and avocado.
