Cruz Maria's story
Cruz Alcívar, age 33, lives in an urban area in Las Orquídeas (it got its name from the abundant orchids that have been there for years; they have now made it into a botanical garden) in Guayaquil. Her husband is a mechanic, and they have three children. The children are 18, 13, and 8 years old. Cruz did not have opportunities, and she had the desperate idea to have her own business. That is why she decided to invest all of her savings in notebooks and pens to sell to her neighbors and friends. Little by little her capital was increasing. She fixed the front part of her house in order to build a place for her business. Because of this good decision, she now has a stationery store in her house. She works everyday from 7:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. She sells notebooks for $0.60 and pens for $0.15, etc. She wants to use the money to invest in notebooks, pens, and stationery in order to have more income. In the future she wants to have other stationery stores, and she wants her children to be able to finish their education.
