Nelly's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy farm inputs such as certified seeds and nutrient-rich fertilizers, in order to improve the quality of her farm products and increase her income.

Nelly's story

Taking a glimpse at 37-year-old Nelly, one may only see her successes, but not the self-sacrifice and the ups and downs she has had to go through. She is a smallholder farmer full of dreams and aspirations for her life. She resides in a remote village in the lush hills of the Nandi Hills area of Kenya, in the Rift Valley region. Thanks to her effort and dedication, she always has good milk and crop production. She works tirelessly every day of the week on her farm. This kind mother keeps dairy animals and grows a variety of crops. These are her main sources of income.
Access to modern-quality farm inputs is the pillar of the agricultural revolution. However, in Kenya, a developing country, fertilizer and seed allocation by the government is way below the needs of farmers. Since Juhudi Kilimo, which is in partnership with Kiva, ventured into the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement in the availability of inputs.
Nelly has decided to apply for a loan that she will use to buy inputs for her farm (certified seeds and nutrient-rich fertilizers). This loan will surely change her life, as she will be able to produce more, and hence improve her income level. Just like her previous Kiva loans, Nelly has promised to repay this loan.
