Ruth's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy farm inputs such as seeds and quality fertilizers to improve a single mother's crop farming.

Ruth's story

Ruth is a 32-year-old single mother of three school-going children. She always believes that life’s ups and downs should not be viewed as the end but as an opportunity to learn to improve in life. Ruth is a progressive woman who, despite being faced with serious misfortune, has refused to give up.

Ruth lives in Kenya's Eldoret area. Although she has only farmed for the past few years, she is working hard and learning good farming practices. The biggest impediments to Ruth's success are poor-quality fertilizers and a lack of certified seeds.

Ruth has requested a loan from Juhudi Kilimo, which she will use to buy farm inputs such as certified seeds and high-nutrient fertilizers. This loan will enable her to improve her production and fill the increasing demand for food in the market. By meeting this increasing demand, Ruth will generate more income to repay the loan and elevate her family's quality of life.

Juhudi Kilimo has partnered with Kiva to provide financial services to smallholders around Kenya. Through these financial services, farmers in Eldoret now can buy productive assets and critical agricultural inputs for use on their farms.
