Dorothy's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy cereals from local farmers to resell in order to make an income and fulfill the promise she made to her children.

Dorothy's story

Dorothy, age 44, is a caring mother of two school-going children who promised them she was going to pay their school fees until they successfully graduated. She has always made this promise her priority and works hard to achieve her dreams. Thanks to her sweat and commitment, she always has good milk to sell and good crop production.

Dorothy works every day of the week on her farm. Dairy farming has always played a core role in the Chuka area of Kenya. Having been the sole breadwinner in her family, Dorothy meets her responsibilities for supporting her children. She decided the best way to boost her income was to improve her farm's productivity.

Dorothy chose to run a side cereal business, which is one of the most profitable businesses in the Chuka region. She believes that she will be able to make additional profit by increasing her cereal stock. She is taking out this loan now as it is an opportunity that she never had before. Her irregular income and lack of collateral security were the main drawbacks keeping her from accessing a loan from commercial banks. Thanks now to Juhudi Kilimo and Kiva, the lives of Dorothy and her family will be changed for the better.
