La Esperanza De Pasac Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy more firewood, as well as lumber.

La Esperanza De Pasac Group's story

Juana is a 33 year old married mother of 4 children (5 mos.-12 yrs), with a 6th grade education. Her husband works selling lumber. Seven years ago, she began her business selling firewood. Some of her income goes toward the educational expenses of her children who are in kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grades. After planning carefully, Juana is requesting her 2nd Kiva loan to buy more firewood, as well as lumber.

Juana is one of 7 Maya K’iche' ladies who belong to the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “La Esperanza de Pasac” located in a rural area in the department/state of Solola. These women have businesses that range from selling fruit, firewood, lumber and spices (pumpkin seeds, leaves for tamales), to convenience stores. They meet monthly to make loan payments and participate in relevant educational training sessions that help them with their businesses, their families and themselves. Recently, besides learning to take precautions regarding Covid19, the women have learned how best to invest and expand their businesses and the importance of wisely using their loan. Every other month, they have access to a visiting nurse. Friendship Bridge calls the combination of loans, education and health care services “Microcredit Plus”.

All of the women send their gratitude to Kiva investors for funding their much appreciated loans! Thank you!
