A loan helped to buy farming inputs to improve her production and make more income to support her family.

Batroba's story

Batroba is 68-year-old woman who lives in Eldoret, a town that was significantly struck by the 2007–2008 Kenyan crisis, when violence occurred in Kenya. She is a hardworking woman, who is never daunted by the ups and downs that she goes through in her quest for a better future.

The major impediment to the development of smallholder farms in Kenya is the lack of short-term loans. Juhudi Kilimo, in partnership with Kiva, is working hard to support smallholder farmers in Kenya through financing, therefore guaranteeing their survival. Batroba is seeking this loan to buy farming inputs that she will use to improve her production and make more income to support her family.

Supporting her with a loan will be key in facing the financial crisis that has been brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.
