A loan helped expand my business.
I am Rosemarie Ramos Vidal, 57 year old, born in Mayagüez Puerto Rico in a middleclass family. I discover my passion for working with my hands at a pretty early stage , about 7 years old. I was a little overweight and my mom thought ballet would be a good idea. Far from true, but ballet classes were given in and old Social Casino and I was fascinated with the wooden floors, the colums and how they met ever so sofly. It was then that my appreciation for beauty and strenght as inseparable was born. That perfect balance will become many years later to be the meaning of Gónyola: the strength of the puertorrican Yola and the beauty of the venetian góndola. I wore many hats while working as an apprentice for metal working in NYC and worked with Harris Rubin, Jim Zivic and Rick Tamarian among others. I am also a certified welder since 1993 and worked many years in the pharmaceutical sector as a Stainless Steel welder. I studied literature and worked at Escuela de Artes Plásticas in Old San Juan as a model for Human Figure classes where I had the opportunity to work with many of the best painters and sculptors in the Island. Again, my experience in fabrication and exposure to art and design gave me all I needed to create a fantastic product that represents the beauty of the strenght and the strenght of beauty. And a purpose. It was not an easy ride pushing through a male dominated sector. It took a lot of persevearence and vision to be able to be a certified boat builder and dealer, with my own bussiness, a fantastic product, that is only the first of various, and a huge potential. I want to give other women the opportunity to make a good living out of their natural skills. And then it all makes sense.
