Lawal's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase improved farm inputs that will increase farm yield.

Lawal's story

Lawal, who is 40 years of age, lives in a rural town in Kaduna, Nigeria with his family. In his small community, maize farming is the major occupation and means of livelihood.

Due to the very low income realized from farming, it has become difficult for farmers like Lawal to support their family’s needs. This is a major challenge common to smallholders regardless of the yield they achieve during harvest.

Through Babban Gona, this loan will enable Lawal to get access to better seeds, fertilizers and other essential farm inputs that will boost his yield and will also help him earn up to 2.8 times in net income, compared to the average Nigerian farmer, from selling his maize to premium buyers. This will ensure that Lawal can continue to provide for his family.

At the end of the season, Lawal plans to use the profits he earns from his harvest to purchase additional farmland so he can expand his maize farming operations and gain access to better health facilities for his family.
