Total loan: $200

Meru, Meru, Kenya / Food

Alice's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy different varieties of cereals such as lentils, cow peas, maize, and rice to sell in the local market and generate a profit to support her family.

Alice's story

Alice (a repeat Kiva borrower) has one child and lives in Meru, a town surrounded by prime agricultural lands which favor large-scale grain farming, dairy and horticultural farming. She has been a farmer for 17 years. She has gained much knowledge, skill, and experience, which is why other farmers seek advice from her about the best planting seasons, crop and animal diseases, and farming methods.

The Covid-19 pandemic has posed a significant threat to the economy of Kenya, causing a lot of uncertainties and disrupting food supply chains. Juhudi Kilimo, in partnership with Kiva, is in the forefront line in combating this pandemic through supporting smallholder farmers and micro-entrepreneurs at this difficult period.

Alice is requesting a loan to buy cereals to help satisfy the constantly rising demand. Thanks to hard work and commitment, she is going to make the best of this opportunity and earn more income for her family.

Her goal is to earn enough profits to repay this loan and pay her child's school fees.
