Maria Ernestina's story

At 68 years old María earns her living selling chocobananas and chicken besides working as a seamstress. During her youth she had five children who are no longer dependants. She decided to venture into business eight years ago out of the need to obtain income for her food and household expenses.

Thanks to the financing she received from MiCrédito together with Kiva she managed to expand her business selling chicken and bought fabric, thread, needles, lace, buttons, chocolate, bananas and boxes of frozen chocolates. At this time she has returned for a loan from MiCrédito together with Kiva to buy cold cuts, chicken, cheese and some used clothing. In the short term future María plans to get a freezer and sell beef.
