A loan helped to buy goats for resale so she can support her family.

Benkadi Group's story

Sitan, holding the goat here, is the client representing her group; she is pictured alone due to Covid-19. She is a 51-year-old Malian woman, and is married with two children under 18, one of whom goes to school. Her husband is a farmer.

Sitan rears sheep and goats, and is also involved in small trade. She has been running this business for eight years, with the aim of helping her husband to cover family expenses. She buys and sells animals at the weekly fairs in her area.

The livestock business is profitable for her because it enables her to cover her children's health and education fees; sales can generate between 25,000-40,000 francs' profit over eight months. However, she is often faced with the disease and death of her animals, despite veterinary care.
