Edwin Alfonso's story

Edwin is a 37-year-old microentrepreneur and a resident of Barranquilla where he provides night security service for the community. He started this business about five years ago due to a lack of job opportunities, the high level of insecurity that was present in the sector, and the lack of security. He offers the service together with his colleagues. The neighbors give him weekly payments. The gentleman has earned a good reputation in the sector for being a responsible and hardworking person.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, he had to suspend the service due to health reasons and governmental decrees. He is currently managing his first Kiva loan with the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo to increase the working capital of his business and to buy supplies like uniforms, vests, gloves, and face masks in order to be in compliance with the biosecurity protocols required by the national government's regulations.
