A loan helped to pay for sheep to resell.

La Linguere Group's story

Ms. Fatou is the president of the group called “LA LINGUERE ”. She is 49, a widow, and the mother of one child, aged 15, who is in school. This loan is for a group of five women all active in the livestock farming sector. Ms. Fatou has been in this business for over ten years. For her part, she would like to purchase ewes, fodder, and vaccines in order to bolster her business and increase her revenues.

She gets supplies of livestock at the weekly markets in town to resell when mature at festivals in regional capitals. Being a widow, she is just able to take care of meeting her child’s needs. The profits she earns by herself are her only income source, which allow her to cover the costs of schooling, food, prescription medicines in case of illness, etc.

Her principal dream is to have a large herd. And another dream is for her only child to attend the best schools in the nation.

Among the difficulties she encounters are theft and livestock deaths often related sickness.
