Vivan Las Mujeres Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to open a 2nd business selling traditional textiles.

Vivan Las Mujeres Group's story

Telma, a generous hard working 30-year-old, lives with 3 younger sisters and her parents in a rural area in the department/state of Sololá. She shares that she is committed to helping support the household, especially during this time of the coronavirus. Telma began a prepared food business several years ago and used part of her income to attend school. She graduated with a teaching degree but was unable to secure employment. Telma decided to open another business selling colorful traditional textiles. She is requesting a Kiva loan to buy colorful traditional blouses/"huipiles", skirts/"cortes", aprons/"delantales" and belts/"fajas".

Telma is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Vivan las Mujeres” that usually meets monthly. However, due to the restrictions of the coronavirus, their facilitator communicates with them by cell phone or WhatsApp. The facilitator emphasizes the importance of hygiene, wearing masks and social distancing. At the in-person meetings, an aspect of 4 topics is covered: health, family, women, and business. Every other month, a nurse is available to them but she currently contacts them by cell phone. This important combination of loans, education and health care is called “Microcredit Plus”.

The coronavirus is very serious for Telma and her friends since there are reduced market hours and the government has shut down public transportation, schools, and offices. Thank you for your kindness in funding their much needed loans!
