A loan helped to buy pandanus for her weaving and also some raw materials for her handicraft business.
Meet 'olivia. She is 50 years old and a widow with seven children. Her husband passed away two years ago, leaving her the responsibility of taking care of their children. Luckily, only the two youngest still attend school while the rest have married and have their own family. Her eldest daughter and her family move into 'olivia's house so she is the one helping 'olivia with her business. 'olivia and her daughter run a business of weaving and handicraft in which they only weave taovala with white pandanus only. They sell their taovala to local customers whom they have worked for for many years. For her craft business, she makes kiekie with different materials including pandanus, hibiscus and coconut fiber. 'olivia usually sells her craft to some relatives overseas. However, since the lock down due to COVID-19, she sell both her products locally. She is hoping to borrow money to buy pandanus for her weaving and also raw materials for her craft business.
