El Chical Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy one industrial stove and several large pots.

El Chical Group's story

Zulma, 44, is one of the few lucky women who graduated from college. She had the experience of working for several years. Zulma is married and the mother of two children (ages 13 and 21) who attend high school and college.

Five years ago, Zulma stopped working and decided to open her own regional food business. At the moment, she delivers the food at home and takes the opportunity to promote and sell her product through social networks such as Facebook and WhatsApp. As her sales are increasing, Zulma needs to acquire new work tools. She plans to invest the first Kiva loan to buy one industrial stove and several large pots.

Zulma is president of the Communal Bank of Puente de Amistad “El Chical” located in the Department / State of Retalhuleu. She and six other women learn about effective business practices such as planning, budgeting, investing, and saving that help them with their dairy, second-hand clothing, regional food, and personal-catalog businesses. Women also learn to take care of their families more effectively: health, hygiene, nutrition, covering themselves with a mask and social distancing to avoid the spread of coronavirus. The combination of loans, education and health services is called "Microcredit Plus".

By receiving the Kiva loan, women like Zulma will be ready to move towards a brighter future. Thank you!
