A loan helped me to continue to serve women cancer thrivers in need.
I was raised in Boston by an entrepreneurial father and a therapist mother who taught me to follow my passion, take risks and give back to society. I studied Communications at Columbia University and spent summers working in the marketing department of my father’s company. So it was a surprise to no one, after moving to San Francisco, that I landed a job at a branding agency helping bricks and mortar retailers create innovative ecommerce experiences. Then I was diagnosed with breast cancer. After undergoing a double mastectomy, I struggled to find comfortable, functional and attractive garments to wear throughout the healing process. Pretty bras caused discomfort, and post-operative ones were scratchy, synthetic and quite frankly, ugly. As I began speaking with other women, I soon discovered this problem to be not only universal, but also a barrier to psychological healing – the difference between feeling like a patient and feeling like a person. With this realization, I vowed to pay my good prognosis forward and solve this issue for other women.
