Alamouta Group's story
The group "Alamouta" comprises seven women from the region of Ziguinchor, Senegal. The group is a solidarity group and part of the "Banc Villageois" TEREMBASSE founded in 2002. The seven members are mainly seafood traders. Since their group has been formed, the members have always paid back their loans to Kiva's local fieldpartner, Caurie Microfinance, without any problem. ("Alamouta" is a common prayer in the region.) Diénéba B. is the leader of the group. She is 26 years old, married and the mother of three children. She is also rsponsible for another child in her polygamous family. Diénéba B. has two occupations: for 5 years she has been a market gardener, but more recently she has also started turning peanuts into peanut oil. With her loan, she wants to buy more peanuts as well as to invest in her gardening. The revenue from her activities allows her to support her family, primarily by improving alimentation and paying for her children's school expenses and clothes.
