Total loan: $300

Kaduna, KD, Nigeria / Agriculture

Bello's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase improved inputs in order to get a good harvest and earn more money.

Bello's story

Bello is 28 years old, single and lives with his family in an ordinary mud house in a small village in Kaduna state. Farming is the primary occupation in his community, and, like many diligent smallholders, Bello dreams of expanding his farm business. However, due to very low income realized from his farming business, it has become difficult for farmers like Bello to support his family’s needs. This is a major challenge common to smallholders regardless of the yield they achieve during harvest.

By working with Babban Gona, Bello will be able to access quality seed, fertilizer and other essential farm inputs that will boost his yield, helping Bello earn up to 2.8 times in net income compared to the average Nigerian farmer. Bello will be able to sell his maize to premium buyers thereby ensuring that he can continue to provide for his family.

Bello will use the profits generated from his maize sales this season to purchase additional farmland so as to expand his maize farm.
