A loan helped to buy seeds and fertiliser for her field.

Kawral Wakilare Wasa Group's story

Mme Maimouna is 34 years old and is the President of the Kawral Wakilare Wasa group, which means understanding and bravery in the Peulh language. There are 12 of them who created the group to ask for a loan so as to develop their agricultural business. She's the one in the picture holding the hoe. She is married to a farmer and is the mother of 3 children aged between 9 and 15. They are all in school.

Like her husband, she works in agriculture, as do most of the women in her village. She has good experience with this activity which she has been doing for a few years. She will use her loan portion to increase the size of her field and her activity.

Mme Maimouna is illiterate. She purchases her seeds and fertiliser and other chemical products in her local area. She sells her harvest in the weekly markets in her area.

She uses her profits to help her husband to take care of their children's needs. She would like her children to go to the best universities in the country. Like the other members of the group, she often faces a problem to develop and increase the size of her field. In fact that is what pushed them into creating the group to ask for a loan.
