Deevabits Green Energy's story
Three out of four Kenyans living in rural communities lack access to electricity and rely on expensive kerosene that threatens their health. Households that switch from kerosene to solar lamps can save up to 30% annually and double their child’s study hours while reducing likelihood of respiratory diseases. Deevabits Green Energy provides affordable solar lighting solutions to 14,000+ rural Kenyan households, benefitting approximately 70,000 individuals. Their products provide up to 15 times more illumination than kerosene -- lighting storefronts, dinner tables, student’s homework and more. Deevabits’ 150+ sales agents provide demonstrations and distribute the products in five Kenyan counties. Their public-facing work has been severely hampered by COVID-19. Like many businesses around the world, Deevabits is unable to operate normally as a result of the crisis. As such, Deevabits is requesting flexible working capital to address their liquidity needs. This loan of $38,000 will help them weather this crisis and provide customers critical lighting throughout and in the aftermath of the pandemic. This is the second Kiva loan to Deevabits. Kiva has also granted a deferment on their current outstanding loan. View Deevabits’ last loan here.
