Natasha's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped me as an environmentally conscious business owner overcome the challenges posed by COVID-19.

Natasha's story

I was raised in Leonardtown, Maryland on the Western shore of the Chesapeake Bay in an old farm house from the late 1800's. I spent a lot of time around the water and am drawn to nature for this reason. Growing up in an historic house made me appreciate buildings in a different way. I took my first course in Architecture when I was a senior in high school - it was a survey of architecture class. I used this intro course to direct me towards architecture; I saw it as providing a structure to my creativity. I went on to get a Bachelor in Architecture from the University of Miami and a Master in Architecture from the University of Arizona. I have worked in natural building materials, particularly with strawbale construction, since 1997. I continued working in natural building materials through hands-on classes ranging from earthen plasters, natural paints, earthen floors, and Japanese plasters. During my Master's studies at the University of Arizona, I worked with rammed earth and paper bale construction. Since 2000, I have been involved in green building materials, particularly environmentally friendly interior finishes. I am passionate about building in harmony with the earth and creating spaces that nourish us, our families and pets without adding harmful chemicals into the environment. I enjoy being active in my community, through sitting on community/neighborhood boards and participating in community planning processes.
