A loan helped to buy seeds, fertiliser and pesticides.

Avec Kafo Barakite Group's story

Hatou is the president of the group "Avec Kaffo Barakite" (which means "solidarity" in Diahinké, the language spoken in the South-East of Senegal). In most villages in Senegal, women generally organise themselves in so-called AVEC (the French acronym for Village Association for Savings and Credit) to be able to carry out their income-generating activities well.

Hatou is 43 years old, married and has five children, including two girls. They are between 5 and 17 years old and all go to school. Hatou herself never went to school. Her husband is a farmer.

Her goal is to grow her farming activity and to transition from family farming to industrial farming, in order to help her husband meet their children's needs. She would like her children to go to the best universities, have care available when they are ill and to satisfy their hunger.

With this loan, she wants to buy seeds, fertiliser, pesticides and herbicides to make a better rainy season. She has been growing rice, peanuts and millet for over ten years as agriculture is very important in her region. Due to the lack of fertiliser, her harvest is not always good.
