Darling Rubenia

San José, San José Province, Costa Rica / Food

Darling Rubenia's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a larger hotplate and more cornmeal to be able to offer more products to her customers, to also buy cheese, curds and creams.

Darling Rubenia's story

Darling is considered to be a tenacious woman who, from five in the morning, starts her working day by kneading the dough, patting her delicious tortillas and then grilling them. This is a traditional food from the Central American region.

She is 34 years old. Two years ago she decided to emigrate to Costa Rica due to the sociopolitical situation in her country. She is currently enjoying the safe haven, but she tells us that her greatest motivation is her two children who she left in the care of her mother in Nicaragua.

She started working in a friend's tortilla shop, but with some savings she managed to rent small premises to be her own boss. She is currently applying for a Kiva loan, in conjunction with MiCredito, with which she intends to buy a larger hotplate and more cornmeal to be able to offer more products to her customers. She will also buy cheese, curds, creams and so generate more income for her family. In the future she would like to open new premises selling tortillas to be able to employ other refugees from her country.
