Total loan: $550

Isoka, Northern Province, Zambia / Food

Monica's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to expand her business by purchasing more stock of groceries.

Monica's story

Monica is a 21-year-old entrepreneur who lives with her husband and one child in the Isoka district of Zambia. She received a Kiva loan before and she repaid it in full. She is now requesting another loan to expand her business.

Monica has a grocery store. With her first Kiva loan, Monica increased the size and range of her stock to meet the demands of her customers. She used the profit she earned to support her family by providing for their daily needs. Monica is requesting a second loan to expand her business by ordering more goods so she doesn’t run out of stock. She plans to use the profit she earns to help with her family needs and support a ninth-grade student in her community.

Monica will repay the ‘social interest’ on her second loan by volunteering three hours per week as a CAMFED Association Learner Guide, facilitating classes from CAMFED’s ‘My Better World’ program with students at her local secondary school, helping to build children’s self-esteem and motivating them to remain in school.
