Total loan: $575

Bungoma, Bungoma, Kenya / Agriculture

Doricus's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy farm inputs such as high-quality fertilizers to help a mom improve her crop yields and use the profits to pay tuition fees for her children.

Doricus's story

Meet Doricus, a 53-year-old mom of 4. She is a dairy and crop farmer from a remote village in Bungoma in the Great Rift Valley of Kenya. To her, farming is not only a talent but also the most profitable business that she knows.

This enterprising farmer began farming a few years ago. She is proud that her dairy animals have been consistent in producing milk, which has sustained her family.

Access to modern quality farm inputs is the pillar of the agricultural revolution. However, in Kenya, a developing country, fertilizer and seed allocation by the government is way below the needs of farmers.

Since Juhudi Kilimo, which is in partnership with Kiva, ventured into the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement in availability of inputs.

Doricus is seeking this loan to buy farm inputs such as high-quality fertilizers to improve her crop yields and generate more income to improve the quality of life for her family. The returns from the investment will change her life and that of her entire household because she will use the additional income to raise their living standards and pay for her children's education.

Doricus thanks her lenders for their generous support.
