Las Flores Del Cipres Group's story

María is the proud owner of a convenience store, bringing to the clientele items necessary for daily use. She is a married woman and considered it necessary to start her business because her husband cannot cover all the expenses of their 8 children (1 to 20 years old). Thanks to the income she gets from this business, she has been able to meet the needs of her children, including the primary education of 6 of them. Because he has developed good business management skills, the business has grown and now is the time to restock shelves. María is requesting the 1st loan from KIVA to buy basic products such as rice, coffee and sugar, as well as cleaning and personal care products.

María is the president of the Communal Bank of Friendship Bridge "Las Flores del Cipres", along with 7 other K’iche ’Mayan women who form the group. They want to continue investing in the businesses of convenience stores, tortillerías, animal farms (chickens, turkeys, pigs), corn agriculture. Apart from the loan, the women benefit from receiving monthly training, part of the "Microcredit Plus" loan, education and health program. The trainings are vital for the empowerment of women and the success of their businesses. They are trained in business, entrepreneurship, self-esteem, women's rights, and preventive health issues.

KIVA lenders, in association with Puente de Amistad, impact the lives of Mayan women who want to get ahead. Thank you!
