A loan helped to purchase foodstuff in bulk to increase her profit margin.

Hawa's story

Hawa is a 21-year-old who lives with her extended family in the Bawku West district of Ghana. She is a food seller who cooks and sells food in her community. With her first Kiva loan, she was able to launch the business. She used the profit to take care of her basic needs. She is requesting another loan to purchase foodstuff in bulk to increase her profit margin. She plans to use the profit to support her family’s basic needs. She will repay her loan with ‘social interest’ by volunteering two and half hours per week as a CAMFED Association Peer Educator leading life skills sessions for students in schools. She will cover topics such as my rights, my choices, choosing your career path, active citizenship amongst others.
