Kaduna, KD, Nigeria / Agriculture

Mato's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase improved inputs in order to get a good harvest and earn more money.

Mato's story

Mato, 38 years of age and married with 3 children lives in a rural town in Kaduna, Nigeria. He lives in a small community where maize farming is the major occupation and means of livelihood.

Due to the very low income realized from his farming business, just like similar farmers, it has become difficult for Mato to support his family's needs. This is a major challenge common to smallholders regardless of the yield they achieve during harvest. By working with Babban Gona, this loan will enable Mato get access to better-yielding seeds, fertilizers and other essential farm inputs that will boost his yield. It will also help him earn up to 2.8 times in net income, compared to the average Nigerian farmer from selling his maize to premium buyers. This will enasure that Mato can continue to provide for his family.

At the end of the season, Mato plans to use the profits he earns from his harvest to open an Agro-Dealer shop.
