Orquideas De Xenacoj Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy vegetables, fruits and traditional snack foods to resell.

Orquideas De Xenacoj Group's story

The Guatemalan government has imposed drastic measures to control the spread of the coronavirus. Women like 27-year-old Olga, the married mother of 2 children (ages 1 and 8), have had to think of creative ways to adapt.

Olga has a small food stand in the local municipal market where she sells delicious regional snack foods, fruits and vegetables.

Most markets in Guatemala are closed and so Olga decided to sell from her home. She needs to restock inventory and is requesting her 3rd Kiva loan to buy more fruits, vegetables and regional snack foods. The boy in the picture is Olga's son.

Olga, together with 6 other ladies, is a member of the Trust Bank “Orquideas de Xenacoj” in the department/state of Chimaltenango.

Olga really appreciates the “Microcredit Plus” program (loans, education, health care) of Friendship Bridge. In her words, “Besides being able to access a loan, I learn how to use it most effectively and I also get free health care.”

Since the ladies cannot meet for their monthly meetings due to the coronavirus, they receive cell phone calls from a Facilitator who shares essential information with them about health, family, women and business.

The Facilitator emphasizes the importance of proper hygiene, sanitizing surfaces, washing hands and wearing masks. Rather than having face to face visits with a traveling nurse, they now communicate with her by cell phone.

Thank you, Kiva investors, for joining Friendship Bridge, in this effort!
