A loan helped to buy pandanus for her weaving and also mulberry for her tapa-making business.

Siueli's story

This is Siueli. She is 46 years old and she is married to a farmer with six grown-ups. Siueli runs a business of weaving and tapa (patterned cloth) making. Once every week, she joins a group of women in her village for tapa making. For her weaving, she is on her own, and she weaves almost every day. She weaves taovala (Tongan dresses) and mats but mainly with white pandanus (pine) only. When her products are ready, she sells them out to her families overseas.

Ever since the lockdown, Siueli's business has run very slowly, especially the market. Therefore, she made a decision to reduce the price for her products in order to sell them. She is hoping to use her loan money to buy pandanus for her weaving and also mulberry for her tapa-making business. Siueli's dream is for her children to finish their education and live a better life in the future.
