Lib Solar's story
Bronita, a young resident of Dolo town in Liberia, walks eagerly to school amidst packed streets. Her town comes to life each morning and the hustle and bustle keep Bronita’s spirits up until the clock hits 6 pm, after which her parents hurriedly usher her indoors. The town’s unelectrified neighborhoods become deserted and life comes to a standstill until dawn. Bronita is among the 2 million people going to sleep at night without light, as less than 1% of rural Liberians have access to electricity. Electricity creates opportunities — opportunities to learn, communicate, start a business, and build a better life. Safe and reliable electricity was until recently unaffordable for nearly anyone. Lib Solar, a local social enterprise based in Liberia, strives to be a catalyst of change. Partnering with d.light design, a leading manufacturer of solar lighting systems, they aim to bridge the affordability gap by providing high-quality solar light to thousands of “off-grid” families on affordable installments. They have already provided sustainable lighting to over 7,000 people across the country, and their mission is to bring power to the remaining 99%. This loan will be used as working capital for Lib Solar to purchase solar home systems that will be sold in rural areas of Liberia. Your contribution will help thousands of people look forward to a brighter future!
