Jibu's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped increase delivery of safe drinking water to customers under COVID-19 lockdowns.
Kiva is able to reach borrowers around the world through our network of local organizations who work to administer loans on the ground. Many of these Field Partners are facing unprecedented challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. This loan is part of Kiva’s Crisis Support Loan program to assist our Field Partners directly so they can continue to support our borrowers. Because it is part of a pilot program, this loan may have higher risk. Learn more here. Jibu is a social enterprise that capitalizes and equips emerging market entrepreneurs to create affordable access to drinking water. Jibu has worked with Kiva to provide loans to borrowers in Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) since 2017. During that time, Kiva lenders have helped them support over 68 entrepreneurs with more than $594,000 lent through the Kiva platform. Kiva is proud of our work with Jibu, which enables small business support, job creation, and access to safe drinking water. Amidst lockdowns, Jibu must increase delivery capacity as quickly as possible. Prior to lockdowns, most Jibu customers picked up water from Jibu shops but now need delivery at home. This loan will be used to support Jibu’s franchise network, including increasing delivery capacity, procuring hygienic gear for customer-facing staff, and providing subsidies to franchises for increased operating expenses. Photos include Jibu entrepreneurs, Joyce, Jeanette, Dennis, and Erina, as well as their staff.
