A loan helped to buy farm inputs in order to improve her corn and bean yields as well as to get a bumper harvest.

Winnie's story

Winnie is a 45-year-old smallholder farmer and mom of 5. She is a wise farmer whose neighbors and fellow farmers respect her as a mentor.

Winnie farms a small plot of land in the green, lush hills near Sotik, in the Rift valley region of Kenya. Like many other farmers in the region, she has been planting beans and maize as staple crops for as long as she can remember. Over time, the fertility of her land has started to dwindle, and whenever she plants beans and maize, the yields go down with each season. Winnie’s farm has also been affected by weeds.

In the modern world, agriculture has become exceedingly dynamic; this includes upgrading the inputs that are being used in the sector today. On this note, there is a need to use improved farming inputs for effective production.

Winnie is requesting a loan from Juhudi Kilimo via Kiva lenders to buy farm inputs, such as hybrid seeds and nutrient-rich fertilizers, in order to improve her farm's bean and corn output. Through this loan, Winnie is going to increase her crop production, and this will translate into an improved income level.

This loan will change Winnie's living standards, and there is no doubt that, if you invest in her, 2020 will be a great year for her.
