Sabuyuman Group's story
Hawa is a 55 year old, illiterate, Malian woman. She is the one who is holding in her hands the container with the "soumbala" (a spicy condiment) in the front of the photo. Married, and the mother of four children, three of whom are in school and who are between the ages of 11 and 17. She stores the African locust beans for producing "soumbala". She likes this profession a lot. She has been doing it for more than 26 years. Hawa transforms the African locust beans into a finished product which is the "soumbala" and resells it to her wholesale customers and retailers in her area and in the capital of the country. In addition to this business, she does other small businesses such as raising animals. Her husband helps her a lot with transporting her merchandise. Although there are difficulties tied to her businesses she does well. She turned to an RMCR loan to increase the size of her capital. In her businesses of transformation, storage, raising animals and retail sales she generates a monthly income of 30 000 Francs CFA.
