Mujeres Del Pinal Group's story

Isabel the treasurer of the Communal Bank of Friendship Bridge Mujeres del Pinal shares: “Being a woman farmer in an underdeveloped country like Guatemala brings daily challenges due to gender inequality and climate change. However, I am determined to succeed.” Isabel is 40 years old and faces obstacles, however, she perseveres in the cultivation of basic grains such as corn, beans, and coffee. She started the business 5 years ago and has her own land. Isabel is married, the mother of 2 children ages 14 and 18. Her husband is also a farmer. Although Isabel did not attend school, she joined forces with her husband so that their children attended school. She is requesting the 1st Kiva loan to buy compost and insecticide to guarantee a quality harvest.

Most of the women who participate in the Puente de Amistad Microcredit Plus loan education and health services have little or no formal education. There are 6 other women in the communal bank who are farmers and sell textiles. They learn a lot in educational trainings that help them move forward in their daily lives. Topics like planning, budgeting, investing, health, hygiene, nutrition are essential to your success. Isabel shares that she appreciates staying informed and taking preventive measures to avoid the Coronavirus. This will be informed by your facilitator through phone calls.

Isabel and her colleagues send their gratitude to the Kiva lenders for financing these loans!
