Las Estrellas Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy ingredients to open her new prepared food business, plus two looms to expand her weaving business.

Las Estrellas Group's story

At the age of 36, Isabel has a family business knitting traditional skirts called cuts and has 4 employees. She can deliver 4 cuts each week. She is a member of the Las Estrellas Community Bank in the department/state of Quiché. Isabel is a married woman and did not attend school. She has 5 children over the age of 6 and has been able to send them to school. She is proud to teach her children this job and knows that in the future they will open their own businesses. Isabel is visionary and wants to include a new business like selling food. She is requesting the 1st Kiva loan to buy ingredients to prepare food and 2 looms for the textile business.

Isabel joins 10 other women every month to receive monthly training. They speak Maya K’iche’ and Spanish. The facilitator conducts educational training, part of the Puente de Amistad Microcredit Plus program. The trainings are based on useful topics: planning, budgeting and investment. This information helps them with their food sales, textile and agricultural businesses. This month, a facilitator briefs women on essential practices, including hygiene, the importance of handwashing and maintaining social distance, and suggestions on how to run their businesses in this difficult time. The child in the photograph is the son of a borrower.

Thank you, Kiva lenders, for taking an interest and supporting the Mayan women of Guatemala!
