Amy's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped me to hire a Project Manager to help me grow the business.

Amy's story

I was born in NY which gave me a great education on how important it is to hustle. NYC is a place where if you have a dream and you work hard you can make it. I learned that by watching my parents. Both of my parents were able to achieve success while facing adversity. My dad, an immigrant from Jamaica, came to this country with nothing and my mom was the daughter of a sharecropper and grew up in the deep south on a plantation. I wound up going to school, getting 2 degrees in both business and design from Virginia Tech and then came back home and got a masters in Graphic Communication from NYU which set me up to be a great marketer. After 15 years of working for for-profit companies, I was feeling unfulfilled and began looking for things to be passionate about. 5 years ago, I started learning how to sail, fell in love with it and quickly began racing competitively on boats. As an African American, I sometimes was the only brown face in the crowd when we'd show up to compete. I started an Instagram account to showcase what I was doing in the hopes of trying to diversify the sport. Fueled by my passion for sailing and my marketing background I was able to grow my account to over 140,000 followers within a few years. Marketers and Entrepreneurs who were following my journey started asking me if they could hire me to help them figure out social media and before I knew it I had a business. Through my passion, I was able to change my life and make it purposeful. Our business focuses primarily on social impact messages that can help people and make the world a better place.
