Los Pinos Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy basic staples and cleaning products including soap, antibacterial gel, and bleach to sell.

Los Pinos Group's story

Small convenience stores that carry basic staples are found everywhere in rural Guatemala. Evelyn, a 21-year-old married mother of a 5-month-old son (featured in the photograph), has her own store. She was trained as a teacher but was unable to find employment. Evelyn recognizes that the 12-hour curfew makes life challenging for her customers in the neighborhood who are prohibited from leaving their department/state of Chimaltenango. It is essential that she has well-stocked shelves and is therefore requesting a Kiva loan to buy basic staples and cleaning products including soap, antibacterial gel, and bleach.

Evelyn is the President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Los Pinos.” There are 6 other Maya Kaqchikel ladies in the group who sell flowers, American clothing, and have internet cafes and tortilla shops.

Usually, the women meet monthly to make loan payments and participate in educational sessions, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education, and health-care services. However, due to the coronavirus, their meetings are held by telephone. This month, a facilitator shared information with them about essential practices including hygiene, the importance of hand washing and keeping social distance, and suggestions about how to manage their businesses at this challenging time.

Kiva investors, partnering with Friendship Bridge, are especially appreciated at this challenging and unique time. Thank you for your kindness in funding these much needed loans!
