Mujeres Del Sector Terminal Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a large quantity of thread for weaving.

Mujeres Del Sector Terminal Group's story

Irma, a 23-year-old married mother of a 3-year-old son, is an example of an empowered entrepreneur. As a child, she began learning to embroider flowers, birds, and geometric figures on colorful traditional blouses called “huipiles.” She turned her talent into a business. Now, she has 6 employees and can deliver 7 “huipiles” each month! She shares, “I am so proud to employ families from my community!” Irma is requesting her 5th Kiva loan to buy a large quantity of thread to distribute to her employees.

Irma is the Secretary of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres del Sector Terminal” in the state/department of Quiche. There are 8 other Maya “K’iche' women in the group. Because of the coronavirus, they are unable to leave their department to sell in other markets. There is no public transportation either. So, the ladies are readjusting and selling their textiles in their town.

Others have convenience stores. The ladies usually hold their monthly meetings in a member’s home but now, they communicate with their facilitator via cell phone. This month, they have learned about the tremendous importance of hygiene, disinfecting surfaces, washing hands, wearing masks, keeping social distance, and selling from their homes.

The “Microcredit Plus” program of Friendship Bridge (loans, education, health care) is of great value to Irma and her friends. So is the generosity of Kiva investors.

Thank you to each of you for your support during this very challenging time!
