Soukhaly Sunoum Rew Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy sheep to resell.

Soukhaly Sunoum Rew Group's story

Soukhaly Sunoum Rew Group (meaning "building our country" in Wolof, the most wildly spoken local language in Senegal) is made up of energetic women who are micro-entrepreneurs and share strong bonds of solidarity.

In the photograph, Rokhy is the woman with her hands on the sheep. She's 52 years old and the mother of a 13-year-old child who attends school. She did learn to read and write in Wolof. Her husband is a farmer.

For the past 25 years, she's been raising sheep. Mrs. Rokhy will use her loan to buy sheep in the weekly markets of her village. The income she earns from her business enables her to provide for her family, in particular the schooling, food and healthcare of her child.

She ambitions to become a major sheep farmer. But sometimes she faces obstacles linked to thefts and the premature death of her sheep, caused by the lack of means to take care of the animals.
