Merlina's story

Merlina is a resident of Ajuy, Iloilo. She is 50 years old, married and has two dependents. To earn an income, she and her husband fish. They have been in this livelihood for many years. Aside from fishing, she also runs a small store for additional income.

Now she asks for a loan of PHP 17,000 through Kiva’s field partner, CEVI (a microfinance NGO) in the Philippines. She will use this loan to buy materials that will be used to repair their fishing boat like plywood, paint, nails and boat glue. The other part of this loan will be used to buy assorted groceries for her store.

Merlina wants to expand this livelihood in the future for her children’s education.
