Chanithmanee's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy raw materials to ensure her hammock business continues smoothly despite global uncertainty.

Chanithmanee's story

Chanithmanee (or as her friends call her, Nutch) lives in a rural village about 70 kilometers away from the main city in her province. Most of the 150 families in her village are farmers. However, since the land is very mountainous where they live, irrigation is impossible; all agriculture depends on the rains. The rains have been inconsistent in recent years.

Nutch is married, and she and her husband have two children. Her husband was originally from a different province, but he came to live in her village when they married; this is unusual and means he is far from extended family. Her husband farms and hires himself out for labor as he can.

Beginning to weave hammocks has changed Nutch's life. She's used her income from hammock weaving to underwrite important expenses like her children's education. She's even sent her oldest child to college with the money she's earned! In a huge change from their old circumstances, she now has two TVs in her house! She's been able to buy needed supplies for her family and spend some of her money to make thier lives more fun!

She says, "Weaving hammocks has proven to be a very productive and valuable use of my time." Now she's ready to begin transitioning to weaving hammocks full-time with her new Kiva community loan.
