A loan helped to buy more pork to sell and restock the shelves of her store.

Mixpilla Sector 7 Group's story

Selling pork and managing her convenience store has provided 53-year-old Bernardina an effective way to raise her eight children who are now over the age of 22. Through her hard work and careful planning, she was able to send each of them through the 6th grade. She is proud of each of them who now have their own families. Bernadina is requesting her first Kiva loan to buy more meat and restock the shelves of her store.

Bernadina is the President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mixpilla Sector 7" located in the department/state of Suchitepequez. There are seven other ladies in the group who look forward to their monthly meetings, when they participate in educational training sessions that give them vital information about their businesses that include bakeries, convenience stores, and the sale of meat, prepared foods and tasty regional snacks. They also learn about the importance of hygiene and nutrition.

Right now, with the Coronavirus, the women understand the tremendous importance of proper handwashing, disinfecting places in their homes, and traveling safely outside of their homes. Every other month, Bernadina and her friends have access to basic health care services. The useful combination of loans, education and health care is called “Microcredit Plus”.

Bernadina is so excited about investing her first Kiva loan into her business and appreciates the kindness and generosity of Kiva investors. Thank you to each of you for learning about her and her friends!
