A loan helped to buy silk thread, dyes and materials for making the traditional silk cloth.

Khampho's story

Khampho is a 71-year-old woman living with her husband in a rural Khmer community in Surin province. To earn a living, she makes and sells traditional silk cloth and pickled fish, while her husband owns a small barbershop in the village.

Weaving silk cloth is their primary income source; Khampho learned to weave from her neighbor when she was young. Potentially, she's able to produce at least five pieces of silk cloth a month that she sells at the local market and occasional fairs.

During this period, Khampho really needs capital to continue her business. She's a very good client of the SED and therefore applied for this Kiva loan to buy silk thread, dye and materials for weaving the traditional silk cloth. She also plans to invest some amount of the loan in her pickled fish business.

Due to her age, Khampho isn't able to borrow from a traditional commercial bank. Therefore, this loan will be very helpful to her,
