Mary's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase cost-efficient hybrid seeds and fertilizer for crop cultivation for this woman with a good credit history.

Mary's story

Mary is a 54-year-old mom of three. She is a lively and energetic smallholder female farmer.

Born in a rural village in Kerugoya, Mary grew up knowing farming as the only economic activity in her area. As a young girl, she was always eager to learn from her parents, and this has had a positive impact on her life. Her spirit has led her to be a successful farmer, practising dairy cow farming and crop production.

Though she dearly loves crop farming, Mary's farm is at risk of attack by crop pests and diseases. For a poor rural farmer, treatment of crop diseases requires an increase in the total operational costs to the extent that, in most cases, the amount of capital invested to produce a desired yield surpasses the output harvested. The remedy is to use certified seeds that are resistant to pests and diseases.

Mary requested a loan to buy farming inputs, such as nutrient-rich fertilizers and certified seeds, to boost her output, so as to increase her income and improve her children's living standards.

For poor women like Mary, who do not have any form of collateral security, trying to acquire a loan from any financial institution in her area is like planting seeds on a rock. However, Juhudi Kilimo has intervened in her area and she is aware of it, thanks to her friends.

Every coin you lend to Mary will make a great impact on her life.
