Mary's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy farm inputs, such as beans, seeds and fertilizer, to help a repeat Kiva borrower improve her crop production.

Mary's story

Mary, a repeat borrower with a good credit standing, is a 40-year-old single mother of three children living in Kitale, Kenya. Her town was significantly struck by the 2007–2008 Kenyan crisis when violence occurred in Kenya.

Mary believes small loans can transform a person’s life. She farms a small plot of land in the green, lush hills of Kitale. She decided to start mixed farming with the hope of giving her family a better quality of life. Through her profits, she has managed to take care of her family's needs and also give her children a good quality education.

Mary has been practicing organic farming for the last few years. Due to continuous cropping, the nutrients in her soil are depleted. This issue, together with attacks by weeds and pests, has lowered the quality of her farm produce. As a result, Mary is seeking a loan to buy farm inputs that include fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides -- so she can use them on her farm to change the current situation.

Through this loan, Mary will be assured of a bumper harvest this season, which will mean more profits and income. Using this loan, she will be able to expand her enterprise. Mary hopes you will consider her appeal for the loan; it would mean a lot to her and her family.
