Thika, Kiambu County, Kenya / Food

Dorcas's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy cereals so that she can increase her profits, satisfy existing demand, and secure the future of her school-going children.

Dorcas's story

Dorcas (a 24-year old mother of two children) is a hard-working woman. She has defied the common thinking among most Kenyans that having proper learning and having been born into a wealthy home are the only ways of becoming successful in life. She is a mother of lovely children. Her primary source of income is milk, and she plants different varieties of food crops.

Dorcas practices agriculture with a difference--employing youthful energy, hard work, and knowledge from the many agricultural training seminars she has had with Juhudi Kilimo. Dorcas is seeking a loan to buy cereals so that she can increase her profits and satisfy existing demand.

Accessing funds has been a challenge for Dorcas, but she feels relieved because Juhudi Kilimo is partnering with Kiva lenders to help hard-working women farmers like her turn their farming dreams into reality through training and loan financing.

Dorcas believes that this loan will benefit her greatly and that she will be able to satisfy the demand for cereals. She also believes that the extra income she earns will enable a change in her life and increase her business. Increased profits will allow Dorcas to repay this loan and provide a secure future for her school-going children.
